Adult Blacksmithing: 4-Week Beginner Workshop

This is a 4-week, beginner blacksmithing class for adults (18+).  Participants will meet for 3 hours, 5:30-8:30pm, every Wednesday evening in June (June 5, 12, 19, and 26).   Students can expect to leave with a basic knowledge of rudimentary blacksmithing techniques, shop practices, tools, and safety. It is a great multi-day experience for those curious or those wanting to start a long relationship with fire and steel.

The course starts with an overview of the shop, tools, forge, and safety. Each day builds on the knowledge obtained from the previous week.
Day 1: Intro, drawing out a taper and the S.O.R concept, bending, and twisting. Project: S-Hook.
Day 2: Review, ribbon taper, fishtail scroll, shouldering, and punching. Project: Coat Hook.
Day 3: Review, punching, drifting, and fullering. Project: Church Key Bottle Opener.
Day 4: Review, pull it all together completing unfinished projects, remaking Day 1 through Day 3 projects or choosing one of the listed projects which encompass the skills introduced in the course. (Twist Bottle
Opener, Icicle Tree Decoration, Key Fob)

Adult Beginner Blacksmithing Workshop: S-Hook

Here is your chance to discover the ancient art of iron work.  This class will focus on basic introductory blacksmithing techniques for the beginner as well as tools of the trade and shop safety.  The ‘S’-hook is an excellent first project that introduces basic techniques that can be adapted to future projects.  The student will learn drawing out square to round, bending, and twisting. This class is for adults 18 years and older who have no prior blacksmithing experience.  The class will last 3 hours and all materials are included.  Jim Crothers will be the instructor for this class, and it is limited to 3 participants.  Cost is $75 for not yet members/$67.50 for members.  Payment is due at time of registration. Young Adult Blacksmithing Workshop-Cancelled

This introduction to the art of blacksmithing is specifically designed for Ages 14-18.  This is a 4-hour class that will focus on basic blacksmithing techniques for the beginner, as well as how to build and maintain the fire, tools of the trade and shop safety. Participants will complete an “S” hook, which is an excellent first project.  The student will learn drawing out from square to round, bending and twisting.  This class will be taught by Mark Gagnon and will be limited to 3 students.  Cost is $100 for not yet members/$90 for members.
