The Canonchet Gazette

A South County Museum publication October 2024 issue

Greetings!

It’s the spookiest month of the year! It’s also the last official open month of our 2024 season. We will continue to be open regularly Fridays & Saturdays 10am-4pm (last entry at 3pm) until October 26th. After the 26th, museum visits will be by appointment only. But stay tuned! We will be hosting special events & craft workshops during our off season.

This coming weekend we are looking forward to hosting Emma Welty’s workshop Weaving Tapestry on a Frame Loom. A few spots are still available - to sign up or find more information click here.

Friends of Canonchet Farm is also hosting a talk with South County Museum Executive Director and Curator, Rebecca Kelly. The Colors of Canonchet Farm: A Walk and Talk about Dye Plants in New England will begin in South County Museum's fiber shed. Rebecca will share information about her ongoing research and natural dye practice. The museum is currently dyeing linen fabric in preparation for its community quilt project. The fall is a great time to forage for dye plants. Come and join the fun!

This talk and walk is sponsored by Friends of Canonchet Farm and is free and open to the public. For more information and to register for The Colors of Canonchet Farm, click here.

October 24th, we are thrilled to be partnering with Sons of Liberty for an event In the Spirit of History, a whiskey & bourbon tasting experience geared towards history lovers. This event will feature a talk on the cultural importance of 18th century taverns, and the role that they played in the American Revolution.

We hope to see you soon!
